Without visualizations, early phase projects are just numbers. Read on to learn how Visoid is democratizing visualization in one of the top builders in the states.
With over 20 years of experience in the fields of architecture and design, Andy played a role in shaping the urban and domestic environment at all scales; from neighborhood-defining structures to espresso machines. He is currently on the i4 and Innovation team at Mortenson where he leads efforts to help the development teams get to successful projects, more quickly and efficiently.
In this effort, Andy has been using Visoid for about 6 months. They initially became aware of Visoid from the team at Giraffe who showed them a quick demo. They immediately saw the potential.
We assist development teams across the country in site analysis, zoning research, and initial architectural design. At this very early stage of a project, the key is to envision and sell a story of the place.
What will this property feel like once it is developed?
How does the project enhance the existing neighborhood fabric?
What will a resident feel and see each day, leaving or coming home?
These are the important questions that help the development team craft a winning proposal or pursuit. Clients and potential partners are used to seeing spreadsheet numbers, bubble diagram plans, or maybe even early massing studies. But with the help of Visoid, Mortenson is able to provide all the data-driven building studies, but also views of how the project could feel. At this early stage, actual materials, massing, and scale are yet to be decided, but early renderings from Visoid give the clients/partners a view into the story of the place.
Without Visoid, telling a story in such an early phase would be impossible. Site context, modeling, and rendering costs would never allow such things to be done so early in the process. There isn’t even a project number existing for most of these pursuits yet. The ease and speed of Visoid allows these studies to be created within seconds. Iteration after iteration in minutes. This really helps our customers make good design and project decisions early in the process.
One of the biggest advantage Visoid gives us is democratization of skill. We no longer need to block out time for more experienced designers and software users to help create these images. In fact, their time cost alone would prohibit us from using this workflow to begin with. Visoid is easily learned and used by anyone. So we can expand the user group who can help in all these pursuits, saving hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars.
I have used Visoid to create images of everything, from high end apartments, medical office buildings, modular office pods, to helping our Energy and Infrastructure teams visualize laydown yards and equipment storage facilities across the US. In each of these cases, seeing early renderings helped sell the story. Even if the final design would look different, Visoid allows the incredibly valuable early tests, ideas, and possibilities to be visualized and imagined.
